It’s been a while since I’ve written a blog, specifically about sports. Well there wasn’t much to talk about except for NFL next season or the Last Dance. The Last dance was nauseating to hear or read about because it was water under the bridge. Plus I am not a big Chicago Bulls fan nor a Michael Jordan fan. The NFL has already provided the next season with exciting information. Brady and Gronk going to Tampa Bay sounds fun. Dak Prescott’s future contract with the Dallas Cowboys still twisting in the wind. Everything has been said. And during that time the world has been crumbled by this coronavirus pandemic. The U.S. is being affected the most based on the WHO’s supposed stats. Then there’s the protests that led to riots that many in the U.S. were waiting on. Yes! That’s right they were waiting on it.
No one knew or even gave a rip about George Floyd before this happened. If he had just been arrested no one would have said a thing. It would’ve been business as usual. But they were looking for it. And the state of Minnesota gave it to them. As a result, I am watching my country deal with riots and protests. No one is seeing eye to eye on this issue. People are bringing celebrities’ racially insensitive comments from decades ago. In other words we are being petty as opposed to being productive and proactive. That is my view.
Discrimination and bias come from all groups of people towards all other groups. As a man who has been apart many get togethers of different races, creeds, ethnicities, nationalities and faiths, I have seen that stare or look like “what are you doing here?” That could have been an “Aha!” moment for me. I could have stood up and said “hey that’s racist!” But I didn’t. I put myself in other peoples’ shoes as best as I could. Or I left. I personally that racism will not end. It will only be transferred from one group to the next. That means that the same person who cries fowl at being victimized and treated unfairly because of whatever group he/she belongs to, may eventually become the aggressor. Or they will pass on this anger to other people or the next generation. And I have seen it. You could be part of the same group but if you have a different opinion you may be casted out.
In the meantime, we barely have any sports events to hypnotize us and not focus on the problems. I miss watching my Lakers finally get back in the playoffs. I wanted to see more XFL. Maybe even baseball(Hopefully Houston will stop cheating). But I have to wait. I have to deal with all of this chaos to will never be resolved completely.
