While the world was watching Joey Lagano win the Fanshield 500 in Phoenix, I was paying attention to the future stars of racing — Hailie Deegan and Natalie Decker. Deegan finished 2nd and 7th in the first two tournaments of the year after changing from Toyota to Ford as her crew this year. Decker finished 5th in Daytona’s Truck series in the beginning of the year but finished 21st in Las vegas, giving her a 16th place ranking. Hailie is the more successful of the two and has won a few tournaments and placed among the top 5 in 8 eight races and among the top 10 in 11 races in 2019. She has continued showing her skills in spite of some racers not agreeing with her style. But when you’re the odd man-woman out these are the challenges you face besides racing itself, of course.
I am pulling for both of them.
