OLD LIONS VS YOUNG LIONS-SUPER BOWL LV

This coming Sunday will bring the greatest battle in sports history. Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will take on Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LV(55). If both of these teams play to their highest potential, this would be the greatest Super Bowl ever. And maybe the greatest game ever. Here are my reasons why:

  1. Tom Brady came to the Bucs to win a Championship without the presence of Bill Belichick, his former coach. In order to do that he had to go through Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers, his other nemeses. Now he has to battle the current NFL champs with the best quarterback in the league. It’s literally like watching a movie.
  • Patrick Mahomes defends his Super Bowl title against the GOAT(Tom Brady), who is playing in his 10th Super Bowl.
  • Travis Kelce, the current best Tight End in the NFL, representing the Chiefs will compete against Gronk(Tom Gronkowski), the GOAT tight end who joined the Bucs this year because Tom Brady went there.
  • The Coaches-Bruce Arians will enter his first super Bowl as Head Coach, while Andy Reid will be going to his second straight and third super bowl overall as head coach. He coached the Philadelphia Eagles to the Super Bowl in 2004 but lost against Tom Brady and the New England Patriots. Payback?

Whatever your team or even sport, this Super Bowl looks to be the best ever. With all that has happened the past 15 months, the world could use a break from reality and enjoy what I feel is one of america’s true holidays-

The Super Bowl!!

Enjoy it!!

Sports out! Chaos In!

It’s been a while since I’ve written a blog, specifically about sports. Well there wasn’t much to talk about except for NFL next season or the Last Dance. The Last dance was nauseating to hear or read about because it was water under the bridge. Plus I am not a big Chicago Bulls fan nor a Michael Jordan fan. The NFL has already provided the next season with exciting information. Brady and Gronk going to Tampa Bay sounds fun. Dak Prescott’s future contract with the Dallas Cowboys still twisting in the wind. Everything has been said. And during that time the world has been crumbled by this coronavirus pandemic. The U.S. is being affected the most based on the WHO’s supposed stats. Then there’s the protests that led to riots that many in the U.S. were waiting on. Yes! That’s right they were waiting on it.

No one knew or even gave a rip about George Floyd before this happened. If he had just been arrested no one would have said a thing. It would’ve been business as usual. But they were looking for it. And the state of Minnesota gave it to them. As a result, I am watching my country deal with riots and protests. No one is seeing eye to eye on this issue. People are bringing celebrities’ racially insensitive comments from decades ago. In other words we are being petty as opposed to being productive and proactive. That is my view.

Discrimination and bias come from all groups of people towards all other groups. As a man who has been apart many get togethers of different races, creeds, ethnicities, nationalities and faiths, I have seen that stare or look like “what are you doing here?” That could have been an “Aha!” moment for me. I could have stood up and said “hey that’s racist!” But I didn’t. I put myself in other peoples’ shoes as best as I could. Or I left. I personally that racism will not end. It will only be transferred from one group to the next. That means that the same person who cries fowl at being victimized and treated unfairly because of whatever group he/she belongs to, may eventually become the aggressor. Or they will pass on this anger to other people or the next generation. And I have seen it. You could be part of the same group but if you have a different opinion you may be casted out.

In the meantime, we barely have any sports events to hypnotize us and not focus on the problems. I miss watching my Lakers finally get back in the playoffs. I wanted to see more XFL. Maybe even baseball(Hopefully Houston will stop cheating). But I have to wait. I have to deal with all of this chaos to will never be resolved completely.

Deegan & Decker – Women on the Car Racing Rise.

While the world was watching Joey Lagano win the Fanshield 500 in Phoenix, I was paying attention to the future stars of racing — Hailie Deegan and Natalie Decker. Deegan finished 2nd and 7th in the first two tournaments of the year after changing from Toyota to Ford as her crew this year. Decker finished 5th in Daytona’s Truck series in the beginning of the year but finished 21st in Las vegas, giving her a 16th place ranking. Hailie is the more successful of the two and has won a few tournaments and placed among the top 5 in 8 eight races and among the top 10 in 11 races in 2019. She has continued showing her skills in spite of some racers not agreeing with her style. But when you’re the odd man-woman out these are the challenges you face besides racing itself, of course.

I am pulling for both of them.

In Zion The Pelicans Trust

Few players have impressed me in their rookie seasons in the NBA. Of course, I must bring up Earvin Magic Johnson, Larry Bird( the enemY), and Michael Jordan. Shaqueel O’neal also was a huge game and team changer in the 40 years that I’ve been following the NBA. I had hope for Lonzo Ball in his rookie year but there was too much going on. Finally, Zion Williamson has arrived and lived up to the anticipated hype.

The New Orleans Pelicans are the team to watch and Zion is the reason why. With a team so strong offensively, they’ve become box office practically overnight. And when you add in Jrue Holiday and three former Los Angeles Lakers players, Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram and Josh hart, that makes for an even more compelling story. But Zion is the primary light on that team. He passionately makes plays on both sides of the court. In just 19 games, Williamson is averaging about 24 points and 7 rebounds per game in less than 30 minutes of play.

The pelicans are battling 4 teams for the eighth playoff spot in the Western Conference, including the front running Memphis Grizzlies. All they need is intense defensive play and they can reach it.

XFL WEEK 5 – ROUGHNECK AND WILDCAT COMEBACK

THIS WEEKEND’S 5TH XFL MATCHUPS WAS ALL ABOUT COMEBACKS. FIRST, THE HOUSTON ROUGHNECKS CAME BACK AGAINST THE SEATTLE DRAGONS TO WIN 32-23 AND REMAINED THE ONLY UNDEFEATED TEAM IN THE LEAGUE. THE LOS ANGELES WILDCATS FOLLOWED SUIT BY DEFEATING THE TAMPA BAY VIPERS IN A THRILLER. BOTH WINNING QUARTERBACKS, PJ WALKER AND JOSH JOHNSON SHOWED THEIR GRIT IN HIGH SCORING GAMES. PJ WAKER THREW FOR 351 YARDS, 3 TOUCHDOWNS AND 2 INTERCEPTIONS IN HIS VICTORY OVER SEATTLE, WHILE JOSH JOHNSON HAD 288 YARDS IN THE AIR, THREW 4 TOUCHDOWNS AND 1 INTERCEPTION.

HOUSTON LOOKS LIKE THE CLEAR FAVORITE TO WIN THE WEST WHILE LA IS BATTLING TO STAY IN THE HUNT TO MAKE THE SECOND SPOT IN THE PLAYOFFS. WE STILL HAVE 5 MORE WEEKS TO GO. I PERSONALLY AM ENJOYING THE GAMES. IT’S A LOT MORE FUN THERE’S MORE INTERACTION WITH THE PLAYERS.

This Weekend in sports

NASCAR – YES, THAT’S RIGHT! i TALK ABOUT CAR RACING. THE LAS VEGAS MOTOR SPEEDWAY IS TODAY. THIS LOOKS LIKE A POTENTIAL JIMMY JOHNSON VICTORY. HE IS MY PICK AND FINISHED SECOND IN SATURDAY’S POLE POSITION BEHIND CLINT BOWYER.

MLB – THE NEW YORK YANKEES AND LOS ANGELES DODGERS ARE BOTH LOOKING STRONG IN THE PRESEASON. THEY ARE MY PICK TO MEET UP IN THE WORLD SERIES THIS YEAR.

NBA – THE LAKERS LOST TO MEMPHIS YESTERDAY. TO MEMPHIS WHO’S BEEN SLUMPING LATELY. THEY MIGHT LOSE A SECOND MATCH IN A ROW AGAINST THE PELICANS. WATCH OUT FOR THE SACRAMENTO KINGS WHO HAVE BEEN RED HOT AS OF LATELY WINNING 7 OUT OF THEIR LAST 10 GAMES.

SOCCER – BARCELONA PLAYS AGAINST REAL MADRID TONIGHT IN A CLASSIC LA LIGA BATTLE. I AM ROOTING FOR BARCA MYSELF. MLS JUST STARTED AND THE CANADIANS ARE FRONT RUNNING.

NCAA BASKETBALL – WATCH OUT FOR MICHIGAN STATE AND CASSIUS WINSTON. THEY COULD MAKE A DEEP RUN IN THE TOURNAMENT THIS YEAR. ESPECIALLY WHEN TEAMS LIKE DUKE AND MARYLAND ARE STRUGGLING THIS YEAR. SETON HALL IS ALSO A LOOKER SO FAR.

TENNIS – DJOKOVIC WON HIS 5TH DUBAI OPEN TITLE. WATCH OUT FOR NADAL AND THE CLAY TOURNAMENTS WHERE HE DOMINATES AND CAN THREATEN DJOKOVIC AT THE NUMBER 1 ATP RANKINGS.

XFL WEEK 4 PICKS

Let’s start with LA vs NY. I’m taking the Wildcats to win 26-20.

Then we have the St. Louis BattleHawks against the Dragons of Seattle. I like St. Louis in this one 31-18.

The third game on the schedule is the in state battle for XFL Texas, the Houston Roughnecks versus the Dallas Renegades. The Roughnecks have been unstoppable at every phase of their game. I like Houston in a blowout 38-12.

Finally, we have Tampa Bay against DC. The Defenders are stronger and more consistent than the Vipers. I am taking the Defenders in this one. They just look better on stats and the Vipers quarterback situation is a mess. Defenders will win in my view 18 – 12.

That’s all folks.

Keeping Up With The Jerry & Stephen Jones

For over a year, there has been question after question as to if and when the Dallas Cowboys will give a new contract to their Star QB, Dak Prescott. This has only escalated higher since the end of the NFL season. Jerry and Stephen Jones were brief but very sly in during the season, saying that Dak Prescott should consider a lower amount to benefit the team. Keep in mind, they have never said that regarding previous quarterbacks with their organization. And only after the season has Dak Prescott really put his foot down, saying he will not participate in training until there’s a deal signed. That got everybody in the media talking even more. Debating and talking. And that’s just what the Jones Boys want. Keep the spotlight on the Cowboys.

Remember, it’s the Kansas City Chiefs that have the Super Bowl this year. Not the Cowboys! And yet we are talking and writing about them 10 times more than the current Super Bowl Champs. Jerry and Stephen Jones are manipulating the media like their own personal puppet show. I wouldn’t have thought until, all of a sudden, Stephen Jones spoke up within the past day saying,” Dak is our quarterback, of course!”

It’s either the Jones’ creating more exposure for their Cowboys Brand or they actually want to see teeth marks from their players. I am picking the former versus the latter. Very Shrewd.

With what transpired last year with star running back Ezekiel Elliott(The Cowboys made Elliott the highest paid running back in the league with a $90 million contract, but only after Ezekiel Elliott held back by vacationing and training in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico during OTAs last summer) and the straight to the point responses that Prescott has given because of their resistance to giving Dak Prescott the right contract he deserves. I think they were very disrespectful of Prescott all year. It showed a bias I didn’t think Dallas had regarding their players. But I guess 2 white quarterbacks can be offered a new contract before theirs expires but the African American quarterback has to wait. I don’t like looking at things that way so don’t make it look like that.

But that’s just what Stephen and Jerry Jones wanted. More press-even if it’s bad press.

Wildcats Tear up Defenders/ BattleHawks Soar Over Guardians

Saturday’s XFL games were mainly focussing on offense. Sunday games, on the other hand, were mainly defensive driven with the exception of Josh Johnson. The Los Angeles Wildcats dismantled Cardale Jones and the DC Defenders 39 -9 in Los Angeles yesterday . Jones completed only 50% of his passes for a pathetic 103 passing yards. He threw 4 interceptions and was sacked 3 times. The Wildcats defense showed no mercy all throughout the game, with the exception of the lone touchdown scored by the defenders.

Josh Johnson, on the other hand, was brilliant, throwing for 3 touchdowns, completed 72% of his passes with 278 yards. No interceptions, solid protection and a great defense and special teams showed the L.A. Wildcats potential. Martez Carter led the running game which did not gain a lot in yardage, but showed beautiful dives and high-flying acts by the rookie out of Grambling State. Carter rand for 2 TDs and caught a pass from Johnson as well. Tre McBride also caught two touchdowns for the Wildcats. It was a straight up BEAT DOWN!

Go Wildcats.

The New York Guardians took a page from the Vipers of last week and played the worst game of their 3 game stretch. McGloin and Williams were forcing passes all throughout the game, leaving a ray of light for Luis Perez to score the only passing touchdown for New York. The St. Louis BattleHawks took advantage of that poor play and capitalized off of it with a 29-9 victory. Outside of the Houston Roughnecks, the BattleHawks have shown the most grit, even in their loss to Houston last week. Their ground attack was stronger on offense than their passing game. They are my logical prediction to come out of the East versus the Roughnecks in the Championship. But there is still 7 games to go.
